The Crowded Table

A plate of food is not just a few ingredients cooked and served together. It is the story of who you are, the source of your pride, the foundation of your family and community. Cooking isn’t just nourishing; it’s empowering - Chef José Andrés

Food can be a catalyst for bridging cultural, social and even political gaps. Because it is something that everyone needs to survive, it can be a powerful tool to expand one's knowledge of the world and connect with different people. Sharing a meal invites learning, debates and stories. It is also an opportunity to keep these stories alive. Each dish cooked and recipe shared are active ways of preserving culture, the people that created them and their stories. When disaster strikes the world, impacting people, their heritage and culture, cooking and recording dishes can be a way to preserve who they are. This documentary is meant to highlight the importance of preserving cultural food heritage. We all have a story or memory linked to food. Can you imagine a dinner party where everyone brought a dish that celebrated who they are, something that actively preserved their food culture and story? The table would be crowded.
